Block Producers in RYSEN

Overview

The role of a Block Producer (BP) in RYSEN is to achieve consensus and ensure the security of the network.
Block Producers are responsible for creating new blocks that include recent transactions, smart contract executions, NFT operations, and governance updates. Each block created by a BP is validated by randomly selected Block Observers (BOs), ensuring fairness and decentralization.

Becoming a Block Producer

  • Anyone can apply to become a BP by staking a required amount of RYSEN coins.
  • 17 Block Producers are active in each round, chosen through the DRPoS system.
  • To prevent collusion and centralization, every round includes an additional 6 randomly selected Block Observers (BOs) who verify the BP’s output.
  • This design ensures that the network remains resistant to manipulation and that no single participant can dominate consensus.

Block Production Process

When selected, a Block Producer performs the following actions:

  1. 1. Collect Transactions

    • Gather recent transactions (token transfers, NFT minting, DeFi actions, smart contracts).
  2. 2. Create a New Block

    • Build a block including all chosen transactions.
    • Add governance updates and system-level state changes.
  3. 3. Submit to Consensus

    • The block is broadcast to the network.
    • 6 Block Observers validate and sign the block.
  4. 4. Finalize the Block

    • After the sequence of 17 BPs and 6 BOs completes within a round, the block reaches finality within 51 seconds.

Rewards & Incentives

  • BPs receive rewards in the form of:

    • Transaction fees included in their block.
    • Newly minted coins, subject to governance-approved issuance or inflation policy.
  • BOs also share in the verification rewards, creating balance and fairness.
  • Coin Holders (CH) indirectly benefit by voting for BPs and receiving governance-based rewards.

Security & Randomization

  • BP selection is based on stake and delegation, but each round also includes randomization to prevent predictable targeting.
  • This means adversaries cannot easily launch attacks against a known block producer at a specific time.
  • RYSEN’s DRPoS consensus ensures both efficiency (3s block time, 300,000 TPS) and security (randomized validation, decentralization).

Summary

Block Producers in RYSEN are the backbone of the network:

  • They create blocks, secure transactions, and maintain network stability.
  • They are supported and audited by Block Observers.
  • They earn rewards that incentivize honest behavior.
  • They uphold RYSEN’s mission of scalability, security, and decentralization.
